Monroe and Minnie -- Lake Wylie NC or SC and Gastonia NC
Hi,
I'm trying to find out if William Monroe "Buster" Boyd had a daughter named Minnie.
Minnie was my great great grandmother and I've always heard that her father was a farmer who owned land by the Buster Boyd Bridge on Lake Wylie; that he was "well off" enough to frequently loan people money; and that his land was where the Red Fez (Shrine) Club is now.All of this fits with William Monroe "Buster" Boyd, but I had always heard his name was Monroe Ballard, not Boyd.If this Monroe is the right person Minnie should be his only child; she inherited everything and "never had to work a day in her life."She died in Gastonia, NC.I know she (Minnie Ballard Phillips) was married twice (she divorced her first husband), so it's possible Ballard was her first married name, not her maiden name.If this is the case she could have been Minnie Boyd originally.Minnie was my great grandmother's mother, but they didn't talk about divorce back then and I'm not sure if my great grandmother actually knew her grandfather (Monroe) or not.She may not have heard his last name and assumed it was Ballard b/c her mother's name was Ballard, but, like I said, this could have been her (Minnie's) first married name instead of her maiden name, especially since she had 2 daughters (Esther and Effie) from her first marriage.
All I have to go on is word of mouth (my great grandmother's stories), and she died a few years ago.I can't find Minnie or her 2nd husband (Lauren (sp?) Alexander Phillips) anywhere.Needless to say, I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks so much!!!
