Col. Weir Boyd, born 14 Sept 1820 Hall Co. Ga. He came to Lumpkin Co. GA with his parents in 1835, while the gold fever was at its height and the red man was still in our midst. He was married to Miss Sarah J. Sitton, 9 Feb 1843. Upon being elected Clerk of the Superior Court in 1850, he moved to Dahlonega (GA.) Early in ilfe he joined the Methodist Church. Col Weir Boyd- 10 Nov. 1893. Dropped dead on Clarksville street at about eleven o'clock on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1893. He was in company with his son, M. G. Boyd. Was returning fron an inspection trip to the Colonel's rich gold mine in the outskirts of town. When in front of the residence of E.E. Crisson (at present home of John Dockery), Col. Boyd suddenly exclaimed that he was very sick; and as he spoke these words he fell to rise no more. Doctors Howard and Jones were quickly summonded to the spot but the spirit had already taken flight. Burial services were conducted by the Masons, the funeral sermon being preached at the Methodist Church, Friday, Nov. 10th, by Rev. F. P. Spencer the pastor. Col. Boyd was admitted to the Bar in 1856 and was a prominent Attorney of this section during the remainder of his life. He represented his county and dist. in both branches of the GA. Legislature. At the outbreak of the Civil War Col. Boyd volunteered for the Confederate service and was unanimously chosen Colonel of the 52nd GA. Reg. which he faithfully served until an attack of typhoid fever compelled him to resign. After the war, he was chosen a member of the GA.
