Lois,
I'm so sorry, but I don't have anything on a John Boyd and Eliza Cane.
Robert Boyd of Meriwether County (died 1846) named the following children in his will: William Boyd, Joseph Boyd, Mary B. Achison, John Boyd, Hugh Boyd, Jane Abernathy, Rosannah Sloan, David B. Boyd, and Frances Tidwell. Other researchers say Robert's other children (who must have died before 1840 when the will was made) were James, Robert and Jefferson. To date, I have only done serious research on William, Hugh and Joseph, who all moved to Carroll County. I intend to do the whole family, I just haven't gotten that far yet. These Boyds were extremely prolific and constantly married their cousins.
Robert's son, John, according to other researchers, married (1) Elizabeth Blackburn and (2) Chellie Nixon. He was born 11 Oct 1795 in Newberry Co., SC and died 9 Nov 1872 in Perry Co., AL. He is said to be buried in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Perry. I do not know the source of their information.
My descendancy is through Robert's son, Hugh Boyd, and Hugh's son, Robert Boyd, who married Sarah LeGuin. Robert and Sarah had only four children: Christopher Columbus (married Sarah George Hannah Lambert), Melvina (married David W. Sloan), Louisa Elizabeth (married Joseph Joshua Payne) and Nancy Ann (married George Washington Groce).
According to the wording in Robert's will, the land he bequeathed to his children was formerly in Troup County, later changed to Meriwether County. That tells me he might have come to the area before Meriwether was formed from Troup. There may have been a relationship of some kind between my Robert and your John, but at this time I don't know what it was. My hunch is that all the Boyds who came from Newberry to Troup/Meriwether were connected somehow. I just haven't tied them all together yet.
Hope this helps some, even if it eliminates a possibility.
Judy
