John Boyd and Elizabeth (Bullock) Boyd
Died, at his residence in Richland Township, Decatur County, August 4, 1901, aged 69 years, John Boyd. The subject of this sketch was born in Richland County, Ohio, March 10, 1832. He came to Iowa with his father's family in 1853 and first settled in Wapello County for a time when they came to Decatur County and settled in Richland Township. Mr. Boyd was married to Miss. Elizabeth Bullock in 1861. She was a daughter of the Reverend Bullock, a well known pioneer preacher of the early days. The family lived in Richland Township for five years when Mr. Boyd moved to Center Township in this county, where they resided for twelve years, when they came back to Richland Township and settled on the farm just north of Grand River where he died.
There were seven children born to them, three sons and four daughters. The sons were Henry, Curtis and Frank. Henry lives in Ringgold County where he is a leading farmer. Curtis lives in Grand River Township and Frank is yet a minor and lives at home. The girls are Mattie, Ida, Nora and Laura. Mattie is the wife of Henry Bryant and lives in Richland Township. Ida and Nora live at Emporia, Kansas, where they have been teaching and attending school. Laura is at home with her mother.
This death creates a void in social and business circles that takes some time for people to adjust themselves to the changed conditions. But time heals all scars and softens all sorrows. His funeral was held at the M.E. Church by the Reverend Woolever, Pastor of the M.E. Church, of which he had been a member since 1889. Interment was at the Young Cemetery where his parents are buried.
