Boyce Irish Roots

My Father, John Boyce, was born in Loughagannon, Balleymaleel, Letterkenney Co. Donegal in 1895. All his ancestors are buried in what is commonly refered to as Killydonnell Abbey, the ruins of a monastery close to Lough Swilly.

According to my cousin Ann who still lives there, The Boyces were originally from Scotland and the name was orginally O'Bouie in the celtic language. Around Lertterkenney and Derry the name of Boyce is very common. Also someone told me they were originally from Carrygart which si a village much further north and more remote in an area that was predominatly gaelic speaking.
I have another cousin living there. The present R.C. Bishop of Letterkenney is Philip Boyce who is oringally from that town!

Any comments?
