James Boyce - PA - Civil War Drummer Boy
Posted by: Lori Naughton Date: February 24, 1999 at 09:41:49

I am seeking information on James Boyce of Western Pennsylvia (Allegheny Co??) born in the mid-late 1840's.
James was a Civil War drummer boy at about age 16 and supposedly served in C company of the 123 Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers about 1861.
James survived the war and began working for the railroads which took him to the area of Bellaire/Belmont County, OH. He married Elizabeth Zilch of Bellaire (dau. of John and Barbara Metzger-Zilch). James and Elizabeth had 4 daughters - Dena, Norma, Minnie Boyce-Wayt, and Pearl Boyce-Curran.
James later sustained head injuries from an accident in the rail yards. He had a metal plate inserted in his head and later died at a sanitarium in the Cleveland, OH area.

Any information on the parents/siblings of James Boyce would be appreciated. I have the information on his children and descendents and would share this data.
Thank you -
