There have been several people who have posted genealogies online that have to do with William Boyce (b. 9 Dec 1754 Virginia / m. Martha Adams 29 Oct 1772 in Virginia / d. 5 Jan 1812 in Fayette County, Kentucky. These genealogies have Martha (Adams) Boyce having died on 14 Feb 1800 in Virginia. But then these genealogies have four additional children born to William and Martha: Daniel b. 1803; Emily/Emilie b. 1805; Margaret/Peggy b. 1807; Caroline b. 1810. I'm not quite sure how Martha could have been their mother when she died in 1800!! There is a court record that shows that Gerard McKinney/McKenney and his wife, Elizabeth, became guardians of Daniel Boyce, Emily Boyce, Peggy Boyce and Caroline Boyce in 1812 several months after William Boyce died in January. Elizabeth Boyce m. Gerard/Girard McKenney on 15 Aug 1812 in Fayette County, Kentucky. When she died in 1833 she was said to be 80 yo. The census record for 1830 enumerated her as being 50-60 yo which seems more likely. Is there anyone who has a second marriage for William Boyce after the death of Martha (Adams) Boyce in 1800? I suggest that the last four children were the born to Elizabeth (unknown maiden name)and not to Martha. And that Elizabeth m2 Garrard McKinney. . . . and that he became guardian of her children. This was a common practice especially when the deceased father of the children had an estate worth bequeathing to them. Anyone researching this family? I would like to 'talk' about this family with someone who knows more than I do. Thank you. Notify Administrator about this message?
