Mary, we might want to take this off-forum. I'm not related to the Boxes, but siblings of my ancestors were related to them.

I think James Francis Box was married first to Elizabeth Witt (probably in McMinn Co., TN). She must have died prior to 1850 since she doesn't appear in the household. James F. Box had just John Box (age 21) and Sarah Box (age 18) in the household. I assume the Sarah is the daughter. I don't know who James F. Box's second wife was - though I seem to recall a deed in the 1850s signed by James and "Jane" or "June" Box. I strongly suspect that James F. Box was instrumental in getting the Hayes and Witt families to come to Titus County.

John C. Box seems to be the same person as the John Box age 21 in James F. Box's household in 1850. I am unsure if the Sarah in that household is John C.'s wife or his sister. I do know that John C. Box married Candice Hayes shortly after 1850. Note she is the 18-year old in the next-door household of Solomon Hayes in the 1850 Titus County census. Candice's older sister Elizabeth Hayes was married to William M. Witt, brother of Elizabeth Witt Box. And to really confuse things, John Henderson, who had first married Elizabeth Box around 1840, remarried after her death in the late 1850s to a third Hayes sister, Milly Ann Hayes. (Complicated, huh?)

I need to check my notes on this, but I think there's a Morris County deed from James F. Box to "my beloved son" William Young Box for a portion of his grant that lay in what became Morris County. I haven't looked to see what became of the grants in Lamar and Delta Counties (and I doubt there are any Titus County deeds).

I have some notes nearly 25 years old, without any source, that in 1853 James F. Box of Hopkins County deeded land in Titus County to James J. Box, Thomas W. Box, and John C. Box.

My main interest in this is the Hayes and Witt families, who have been on my back burner for decades. I am happy to trade what I know, and would like to know more of the Boxes, both in Tennessee and Texas.

Feel free to continue this off-forum.
