Linda, The Absalom you list is actually Abraham, son of John and Rachel Box, per the Will of John, and careful examination of the census.
If your Jonathan was born in Laurens Co., SC in 1769, his father would probably be among the Box men who are recorded in the Laurens Co. land records dated from 1755 to 1771 found on SC Archives On-line: Robert(s), Joseph, John, and Edward. You also have to include Henry because Abraham gave oath that his father, John, had a brother, Henry. We know Jonathan's father is not John because he is not listed in his Will. I think Jonathan's father would be Joseph because Joseph's older son, Michael, married William Bolton's widow...and took a land grant next to Mrs Box (Margeret, widow of Joseph Box) in 1784. In the 1790 census Michael Box has a large household that probably includes his mother, Margaret, and his brother, Joseph, who are listed in the 1800 census. Michael Box, Sr. was in Georgia in 1800 with his sons Josiah, Michael, Jr. and Marmaduke. It seems his brother, Jonathan, went to GA also.
Much of the above is speculation, making connections between documentation that may not really connect. However, it does give you a theory to try to disprove.
