Hello Carol,

I'm a descendent of Andrew J. Box via his son Walter R. Box and have just started to research this part of my family history. All I knew before reading Carol Poulos' and Cathie's emails were the names of Walter's parents and some information from a newspaper article (1943) about Walter R. and Marietta Golden Box on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The article says Jane Mann, Walter's mother and Andrew's wife, came to America from Gloucester, England in 1840, settling on Long Island and that Andrew J. Box was a well-known building contractor in Hempstead who built many of Hempstead's fine homes. Walter R. Box married Marietta Golden Dec. 6, 1893 at Congregational church ih Greenwich Pond, now known as Roosevelt. They lived in Hempstead where he was a building contractor. Also, Walter was a charter member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. Walter and Marietta had two children to my knowledge, Walter R. Box, Jr. and Viola Mae Box. Viola was my grandmother so I have information about her, but I haven't been able to find out much about her brother, Walter R. Box Jr. I believe he had 4 or 5 children. The only one I have a name for is Raymond A. Box. Any information you can share about the Box line would be appreciated.
