Alex, I am so excited that you answered my query. Researching the Box family as been very difficult. Listed below is some information that I found at the Huxford library in Homerville GA on a research card. I believe we looking at everything that your Hansford and my Rachel were brother and sister. Box age 20 Occupation - Laborer Born - 1830 - South Carolina could not read or write Lucy Box age 18 Born - 1832 - South Carolina - Deaf and Dumb William Box age 14 Born - 1836 - Georgia Rachel Box age 10 Born 1842 - Georgia Hansford Box age 30 Occupation - Hunting Deer Born - South Carolina Polly Box age 25 Born - Georgia Sarah Box age 1 Born - Georgia RACHEL BOX is the daughter of John C. Box (born 1795 North Carolina). John C. Box and family lived one mile from Argle on Lot Number 413, 7th District served in Captain L.J. Knights ??? Company of Militia 1838. Rachel’s mother was Nancy ??? born 1803 in South Carolina. John C. and Nancy Box were living with William Box (John C. Box’s brother) in the 1860 Clinch County Census. Family shows in the following census - 1840 Lowndes County, 1850 Lowndes County, 1860 Clinch County. The 1840 Lowndes County Census shows 5 boys and 3 girls living with them. The 1870 Hamilton County Florida census shows William Box age 30 with wife Sarah age 25 with children Laura 8, Martha 6, Moses 4, Jacob 2. Rachel’s brothers and sisters (information came from index card at Huxford Library, Homerville, GA): 1. Hansford b. 1820 - SC - married Polly - while he went off to Joseph H. Box b. 1820 son of John C. Box was born in South Carolina and married Elizabeth b. 1825 in GA - they had the following children. His full name was possibly Joseph Hansford Box, Handsford’s wife in 1850 was Polly. She died while he was in US Army. ****THIS IS REALLY CONFUSING****************** In 1880 Martha Box age 33 and her mother Elizabeth Stavley (nee Thomas) (THIS ELIZABETH WAS JOHN D. THOMAS’ SISTER) and 2 little children were living in Clinch County by Thos Cox. Elizabeth Stalvey (nee Thomas) was age 50 living with her Martha who was married to Edward Thomas 2/29/1882 in Clinch County. Andelia Box married J.C. Wilson 4/5/1867 in Clinch County. The children of Joseph Hansford Box by wife Elizabeth born 1824 in GA. 1. Elizabeth b. 1850 RACHEL’S UNCLE AND 1ST COUSINS William Box b 1805 in South Carolina This family appears in the 1840 Ware County Census, 1850 Clinch County Census 1860 & 1870 Hamilton County, Florida Census. William bought lot 371 - 7th from John C. Knight October 1, 1845. Lived on first place beyond Arglyle next door to Barry Branch. Box Branch past ??????. Registered to vote in 1867. Moved to Columbia County Florida 1867-1868. Ran away by Regulators. See Richard Box card. William’s wife living alone in 1870. John box with wife Emmaline with three children. Jefferson, b. 1860, Thos b. 1863 Jerry b. 1870 all born in Florida living 1870 neighbors to William John Box, PVT Co K. 26th GA Regt. Joseph Box b. 1832 - SC son of William Box - 1860 Clinch County Census wife in 1860 was Matilda b. 1840 - GA they had 1 child David b. 1860. Joseph Box enlisted 3 April 1862 in Company K, 26th Georgia Volunteer Infantry and died at Frederick Maryland, 14 October 1862. Joseph’s widow later married a Howell ????? support granted her June 5, 1871 Lot 412, 7th. Appraisers: Jacob Willis, JE Yarbrough, Joseph Ricketson.
