From Tippah Co, MS 1850 Census: John J. Box, born 1840 in MS the son of Jesse and Ellen Box. Jesse born in TN and Ellen in GA. John J. married in Tippah Co, (Book 1, Page 38) 20 Dec 1858 to Mary E. Cartwright, born 1841, dau of James R. and Elizabeth Long Cartwright.
1880 Census shows John and Mary with five children; William Riley, Ellen L.,Mary C., Charlie J. and Roena A. By the 1900 Census only one child at home, Sarah A.
Tippah Cemetery Records list a John J. Box, 6 April 1840, died 10 May 1920 being buried in Shiloh Cemetery east of Ripley, MS.
