In a book, "The History of the Greenbrier-America's Resort by Joseph S. Conte, the Greenbrier Historial, he says that Michael, Jr. was a member of a lsrge and influential family in VA who even in the late 18th century could proudly trace its roots back to one Edmund Bowyer who came to Jamestown with the first English Settlement in 1607. Michael Sr. as far as I can tell from my research had 4 sons: Michael, Jr., Adam, Sr., Luke and John. Michael, Jr. married Frances Carpenter and owned land where the Greenbrier Resort is today; Adam Sr. married Christine Lauderback, and had Adam, Jr., Reuben, and many other children....13 in all, 10 still living in census records of Greenbrier/Monroe Counties., Luke became an attorney and married the sister of Patrick Henry - had no children with her and they were divorced; and John who assumed guardianship of Michael, Jr. when Michael, Sr. died @1714...not proven by me yet. I don't know who he was married to, etc., but there is a post on this forum board...type in Adam Bowyer or Michael Bowyer and you will see it that speaks of someone who has traced the Bowyer's back to the 1400's. The message is an older one, so I don't know if the e-mail listed for his name is a current one. You can e-mail me at sheilakline47@yahoo.com to share into. I would reallly like to find out more about Michael Sr.
