Really Need Help with these Bowlen/Bowlins

1880 Hancock co. TN.
Reuben MATHIS Self         63 KY Farmer NC KY
Vina MATHIS         Wife 49 NC Keeping House NC         KY
Lyda BOWLEN         SDau         M 18 TN         KY         NC
Joseph BOWLEN         Brother S 16 TN At Home NC         NC
Charity MATHIS         Dau         S 11 TN KY NC
Thomas BOWLEN         SSon         1 TN At Home TN TN

NOTE: Thomas Bowlen is probably the son of [Married] SDau. Lyda Bowlen.
Joseph Bowlen age 16 is listed as 'brother' to Reuben Mathis age 63, eby 1817?? It would seem more likely that Joseph Bowlen born 1864-65 would be a step son rather than a brother to Reuben Mathis born 1817.

Please Help Me!
