Hello,

I also am looking for info on Thomas C Bowlin born in Southern Pines NC 1790 died 1864 Ashville, St. Clair County AL he would be my GGGG Granpa. My line goes form TCB to Lafayette Bowlin to James Polk Bowlin to my Granpa Leland Lafayette Bowlin.

Here is a little story that some of you may know. This is about Lydia.

Told by Mary Bowlin Ramsey.

"Lydia got word that their youngest son, James K Polk Bowlin had died in the Civil War. His outfit had buried him at Mulberry Church near Fayetteville, TN. He had gotten sick and died from measels. Lydia hitched up a wagon and set out for TN to get her son. It was not know whether she went alone or if someone went with her. She finally arrived and had the soldiers dig up her sons body and load the pine box on her wagon. Whe started back to St. Clair County, stopping at farm housed at night that had porches. Whe would pull the wagon up close to the porch so she could keep wild animals away. She finally go back home with her son and his large gray horse, which she had tied behind the wagon. He was buried and she could rest knowing that he was home and not in some strange place alone".
This is from a typed listing of Thomas C Bowlin and Lydia Sheffield's children and thier children and so on.

James K Polk was in Company D, 25th ALA Infantry along with his brother's John, Thomas and William.

Thomas C Bowlin is supposed to be buried in the Ashville, AL Cemetery. I couldn't locate it. Lots of other Bowlin's there.

No information about Thomas C Bowlin's parents at all.

Duane
