Margaret,

Thanks very much for your information.

Unfortunately there is a problem. Would you believe that there are TWO Richard Bowley's living in London at the same time? Both were born in Sussex around 1797 and both married a woman called Mary. I made the mistake of assuming they were one and the same.

I believe your Richard did marry Mary Callender but she was born in Wandsworth, Surrey in 1804. Your Bowley family were (generally) builders/bricklayers whereas mine worked with horses.

If you have access to Ancestry.com (or co.uk) then you will find them living in seperate parts of London on the census returns. Also on the LDS site I have tracked down the parents of my Richard to John and Jude who married in Sussex around 1792.

I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. I have no doubt, given the proximity of the births of the two Richard's (Yours in Slindon and mine in Arundel), that there must be a connection a little further back in time.

Please feel free to respond with any observations you may have on what I have said.

Best wishes,

Andrew
