John Zadock Bowles was born 15 Jun 1892 in Nashville TN to James and Sallie Lee (Cockley) Bowles. He died 20 Mar 1958 in San Antonio (Bexar County) TX. He was a carpenter by trade. This is according to his death certificate. Bernice Bowles was the informant.
Alice Bowles was born 13 Jul 1890 in Texas. Her father was James Delay, also born in Texas. Her mother is not identified on Alice's death certificate. Alice died 13 Sep 1933 in Caldwell County TX. The cause of death was food poisoning. Her husband John Bowles was the informant.

John and Alice are in the 1930 Guadalupe County TX census with two daughters and a son: Ruby (16), LeRoy (13), and Dollie (5).
In 1920 they were in Leeper Township, Murray County OK with three children: Bessie (9), Ruby (6), and LeRoy (3).
In 1910 there were four families of Bowles listed together in Fannin County TX. Listed first was Gabe (54) and Sallie (45) with three children at home. The next household was that of Henly Bowles (26) and his wife Mary (20) with two daughters. The next household was Alfred Bowles (23) and his wife Ethel (20) with one daughter. Next was John Bowles (18) and his wife Alice (20), no children yet. All of these Bowles men were born in Tennessee. I suggest the possibility that Gabe and Sallie were the parents of all three other Bowles men. Since John's father was identified on John's death certificate as James, perhaps his name was James Gabriel Bowles (maybe).
