Bowlers in Abingdon district in Oxfordshire

Any info on ancestry, or indeed his personal history, of Nathan Bowler (born c1826 in Oxfordhire, possibly Sandford area) greatly appreciated.

He married Emma Nutt in late 1847 in the same area. They had at least 6 children, born in Nuneham and Sandford.

I am not positive where Nathan was born as his birthplace on the 1881 census is Oxford and in 1871, it is St Thomas, Oxford. I am not convince it is indeed St Thomas and am more prone to believe it is a mistranscribe of Sandford on Thames.

However, any info is greatly appreciated.

Also, if you have sny knowledge whether his son, John Bowler, spent some time in Gillingham (Chatham) prison in and around 1871, this would also be useful. There is a John Bowler in this prison on the census but I amunusre as to whether it is him, as he was born in Nuneham
