My Mary Bowlby was the daughter of Thomas Bowlby born late 1700s and his wife Hannah. Thomas was the son of Thomas Bowlby (1744-1827) and Sarah Cowell (1746-1829). This Thomas was the son of immigrant John Bowlby and Mary (Marcer?). The line goes back another 6 generations in England according to the Bowlby volumes. Mary BOWLBY was born 2 Jun 1808 in Mansfield Twp., Warren Co., NJ and married 28 Nov 1833 to Jesse SMITH born 23 Mar 1813 at the same area of NJ. While in NJ they lived within a few miles of Washington, Warren County, NJ. They traveled to Goshen Twp., Clermont Co., OH and both died there of disease in the late 1840s while still young. Mary died 23 September 1849 and Jesse died 2 days later. Their orphaned children raised by Smith relatives: George Whitfield Smith (1834) [unnamed] Smith (1836) Alfred Kenneth Smith (1837) m. Nancy K. ROSS Aquila Brown Smith (1840) m. Belle ___ Syren Smith (1842) m. Samuel Philip SHAFER Mary Louisa Smith (1845) Linda Etta Smith (1847) m. William Perrine ROSS I am descended through Syren Smith Shafer and her daughter Mary Etta Shafer Atkins. Please help, I still need help on Jesse SMITH's ancestry. According to one source, Jesse Smith is believed to be the son of Jesse and Elizabeth Smith. His wife Mary's sister Louisa Bowlby married Samuel Conover Smith, possibly Jesse's cousin, who is believed to be the son of John Smith. This family raised the orphaned children there in Clermont County OH. Also living in Goshen, Goshen Township, Clermont County, Ohio, in 1840 was Ephraim Smith (younger than Samuel and born in the 1810s). Was Ephraim another brother/cousin of this Smith family?
