Linda found the gravestone of "Major John Bowie's" grandson, John Bowie. John Bowie,the immigrant, was first postmaster of Abbeville and an early county clerk in addition to being a "planter." One of his grandsons, also named John Bowie, left Abbeville area in mid 1830's and lived in Mobile AL and later in Dayton, Al. Source: Bowies and Their Kindred by WW Bowie. ( The John Bowie buried near Dayton was a son of Capt. Andrew Bowie and his wife Rosa Watts.)
