Rezin Bowie, father of James Bowie, died in Iberville, Louisana 17 Jan 1841. His date of birth was 15 Feb 1831. His daughter Martha Andrewella is buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Port Gibson, MS. The cemetery is on Coffee Street. At the time of her death, according to the Jackson, Miss. Clarion Ledger, in an article published November 7, 1971 in Section G page 3, Rezin was disinterred and reburied beside his daughter. The article is accompanied by a photograh showing two coffin like boxes with tall spires on top. I have a copy of this article supplied to me by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. It is believed Rezin's wife, another daughter and some grandchildren are also buried there. Rezin was first buried in Iberville, and disinterred, apparently at the time of Martha's death and reburied in Port Gibson. It is supposed that Port Gibson was chosen because there were several members of the family living in and near the city at that time.
