I am just starting to investigate our family tree; and was very interested in your BOWES LYONS as we have always been told through the family that our Great Grandmother, Eva Thompson (nee Bowes (Lyons) was a first cousin to the Queen Mother, Elisabeth.
From what I've gathered from the family history; is that Eva married someone called THOMPSON and resided in Stanley County Durham; THOMPSON was something to do with the coal industry as a manager / owner. We understand they were quite well off and had servants; having actually met one of her former scullery maids some 20 plus years ago.
Eva died in or around 1991, Stanley, County Durham and had 7 daughters and one son
Jeanette Thompson (unmarried)
Eva
Lesley
Stella Ambler
Thelma Clarke born 29.02.28 died around 15 - 19 June 1988 (murdered) my grandmother
Katie Welsh
Keith
(can't recall all daughters names) the Thompson family name was linked with COULSON and we are aware that COULSON COAL was quite a big company around the area and seem to be around today under KEN COULSON, Stanley which is where the family resided.
I would like to research further but as family members do not recall when Eva was born; married; and only vaguely remember she died in 1991 it's difficult to obtain further information from the family.I can't even recall my great grandfathers' first name.If you have any further information regarding the BOWES LYON connection it would be greatly appreciated.
I started with Eva Thompson, nee Bowes as I could trace her to the 1911 census
I've not researched our family tree but am very keen to learn more, from both sides of my family actually but thought I would start with the Bowes connection as I felt there may be more information available on that line.
