STAGES of FAMILY - A BOWERS Resolution for 2013!
2012 is done... posting to the BFG Forum seems to be at a 'snails pace' and it's got me curious as to why. Maybe it is the stage of a life or maybe better stated... stage of a living family at a point in time. Our Bowers' are descended from Job & Charity. My interest grew because of my dad who bought a book called The History of Hart County, Georgia. After he passed away in late 1997, it triggered a switch that lead me more into family research. Dad (Elbert Gordon Bowers, Jr.) was 1 of 10 siblings born to Elbert Gordon Bowers, Sr. & wife Nancy Elizabeth (Gravely). I am one of 3 siblings. Smaller families are the general rule contrasted to back in the day! The early family reunions were about going to Da-Dad's house and seeing bunches of Aunts/Uncles and 1st & second cousins. Great times! Now my dad's youngest sister & youngest brother are the two remaining of the 10 siblings. First cousins have been stepping up to help us to remember our family heritage! With technology aiding family research via internet boards & DNA research - I am encouraged by the potential to bust through apparent 'walls' or obstacles that keep us from learning more about our families! Just resolve this year to review what you know and commit to using available resources to increase & share family history gains made during 2013 and beyond! We've planned a Bowers Family Reunion for June 22-23, 2013 that will try to get family who descended from Asa - my great, great grandfather! We are hoping to go visit a grave site Old Hendrys Church Cemetery sometime next month to allow some 1st & 2nd cousins to see where Job Bowers was buried. Interest seems to be on the increase. Ultimately, I believe all Bowers who descended from Job Bowers b. 1755 d. October 4, 1779 may come to learn more about his ancestors that came before! Keep on keeping on!
