Hi Kathryn, I am hoping I can connect with your William in some way. I too have a Bowerman from Crawford County, PA. Betsy Bowerman is my ggg grandmother. She was born February 14, 1809 and died July 29, 1877. She married David Bligh on July 24, 1840 and they had one child, Ann L. Bligh. Does any of this ring a bell? I have been unable to find any other information on her.
