Bowers/Bower/Bauer DNA Project

The most recent results for our DNA Project have been posted to our website at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/bowers/results.html. We are now starting to get some matches.

I think we could get even more matches if we had more participation from the lines that predate the Revolutionary War. I know from my own research that there are many early NC and VA lines that are not yet represented. Then there is PA, the mother lode of Bowers/Bower/Bauer families. In York Co., PA alone, where my Andrew Bowers Sr. was born, there were five Bowers/Bower/Bauer families who resided there in the mid-1700s. And what of New England? As yet, we have no participants from any New England line, yet the 1790 census shows they were plentiful.

Please consider joining or sponsoring a male Bowers/Bower/Bauer representative from your line. If you don't know of a living male representative in your line, dig a little deeper. With the advent of online census images, it is easier than ever to trace the male lines up to 1930. Then, try the various phone directory websites for those you can identify in the 1930 census. You may just find a living male of your line.

Note that FTDNA recently announced price reductions across the board. The recommended 37 marker test now costs $189 instead of $219. See the Recruitment Page at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/bowers/rec.html for a full discussion of the testing options. Hopefully, these price reductions will lead to more participation.
