I'm trying to tie into which branch/line of the Bourn(e) or Bowen families a William Bourn/Bowen (b. 1807) ties into. William married May/Mary/Polly Spencer (b. 1805) of Jessamine Co. KY. I'm not sure when they moved to Indiana (1st Knox Co, and ultimately Sullivan Co.) William supposedly died in 1839. I am descended from their daughter Lucy Jane, who married Christopher C. Shake (Jr.) of Sullivan Co. IN.
The 1840 IN census of Knox Co. lists a Polly Bowen as having 3 boys and 4 girls living with her. Tavner Bowen and Andrew Bowen were also on the same census page. Polly was (presumably) listed in the 1850 Knox Co. IN census as being Mary Baume, with children Wm. H., Charles R., Lucy J., and Spencer B., along with her father and step-mother Moses Spencer and Elizabeth Spencer. Mary Bourn died 3/17/1886 and is buried in Indian Prairie Church Cemetery in Sullivan Co. IN, along with Moses and Elizabeth Spencer.
Any explanation as to why the name would be spelled both Bourn and Bowen?
