Hi,

Don't think my William Bowell went to America but he was my 4th great grandfather - married to Elizabeth. This family was in Gt Bromley in Essex, England at least from about 1796. There was also another Bowell family in Little Bromley in Essex at that time (these are both tiny little villages about 1/2 mile apart) - they had names like Samuel and Israel. They were all ag labs. In about the mid 1800s my Bowell family started to drift into East London - my great great grandfather was a 'seafarer' - my mother told me he ran barges up and down the east coast and I guess that's how he (Alfred Bowell) ended up in Bethnal Green.

Sound interesting to anyone?
