SPRINGFIELD - Doris Christine Bovard, 86, of Springfield, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at The Villa Springfield.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Robert Meyer officiating. Interment will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Doris was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Cedarville, to Paul Lackey and Hazel Dell Gardiner Ramsey and married Richard R. Bovard on July 26, 1962. He died Jan. 21, 1999.
She was a graduate of Cedarville College, studied graduate English at Ohio State University and received a master’s degree in guidance from Wittenberg University.
She had taught a total of 34 years in seven different school districts in Ohio: Jefferson Elementary, Bowersville (1941-42); South Amherst Village High School (1942-43); Huntington Rural School, Ross County (1943-46); Bellefontaine City High School (1946-61); Brecksville Exempted Village High (1961-62); Orrville City High and Junior High (1962-63); and Bowman Street and Edgewood Junior High, Wooster (1963-75). Five of the years at Edgewood, she was occupational work adjustment teacher/coordinator.
She was a member of Wayne Presbyterian Church, where she served as elder and clerk of Session. She taught a seniors’ Sunday school class and was a moderator of Presbyterian Women.
She was active in Alpha Theta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Wayne County Retired Teachers Association, the Wayne-Holmes Diabetes Association and the English Club.
She served on the Mission Committees of Muskingum Valley Presbytery and the Synod of the Covenant. She helped lead mission and evangelism workshops for Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery and was a member of the Synod School committee.
Surviving are sisters, Vivian E. Williamson of Springfield and Ruth A. Cooper of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers, David L. Ramsey of Blanchester and James P. Ramsey of Miamisburg; four nephews; five grandnieces and four grandnephews.
