The name seems to have changed in the mid nineteenth century, probably at the time of the introduction of the National school system in Ireland. It seems unlikely that the name is Hugenaut. I have heard reports that two brothers were shipwrecked off the Coast of East Cork, probably around the time of the French revolution. There has been some suggestion that the original name was German, but the family first moved to France.
