This is a great find!Surely this Grace BIZZELL is the "Grace BAZZELL" who has been claimed many times, without documentation, as the (first?) wife of Stephen BOUTWELL.I noticed that there is another BIZZELL marriage, THORNHILL to BIZZEL on 1 Sep 1767, in this collection of records.I never had any luck in locating records for the BAZZELL surname, so this suggests an alternative spelling.Perhaps the name might actually be BISSELL, which is a known surname, particularly in New England.
I looked back over previous postings on this Forum, in particular #567, 684, and 685.These suggest that Stephen had a second wife, Sarah, who is likely to have been the mother of all his children born in 1790 and later.Sarah was born ca. 1766, so she must be distinct from Grace. Also, it would be unlikely that Grace, having been married in 1774, would still be bearing children in the early 1800s.As I have noted elsewhere, this family has a pattern of recycling given names, and the name "Grace" is conspicuous by its absence in later generations.
It certainly does look like the Grace BOWDWELL in the 1790 census for Orangeburg District, SC may be this Grace, who stayed there after Stephen left on his westward trek.I wonder what became of her, and the children who appear to be with her in this census.
