Our family went by Boussum and lived in Carrol Co Indiana. John Bousum was recorded there in the 1840 census, he being between 50-60 yrs with a female between 40-50 and a girl of 5-10 yrs.
In 1850, the following households are at Carroll Co:
John Bausman, 32, PA
Elizabeth, 28, VA
Asberry, 7, IN
Elizabeth, 7, IN
James K, 4, IN
Nancy E, 4/12, IN
David Bausman, 25, PA
Lydia, 22, PA
Alexander, 2, IN
William Bausman, 23, PA
Mary E, 17, DEL
along with a married sister:
John Bush, 28, PA
Catherine, 28, PA
Elizabeth, 1, IN
Mary Bousum, 57, PA
Saml Bousum, 22, PA
By 1860, they seem to have adopted the Boussum spelling. Our ancestor is William. I came across information that he was born in Perry Co PA.
I believe that the John (b: bet 1780-1790) recorded in the 1840 census was the husband of Mary (b:1793 PA) and father to John (b:1818 PA), Catherine (b:1822 PA), David (b:1825 PA), William (b:1827 PA) and Samuel (b:1828 PA).
I found a John Bausum living at Tyrone, Perry Co, PA in 1830 and another John Bausum at Saville, Perry Co, PA. Do you know if one of these Johns would have been the patriarch John of the Bausman/Bausman/Bousum/Boussum family of Carroll Co Indiana?
Thanks,
