Judith, Thank you so much for this. Harris was my grandfather and Wilson, Nelson and Florence were his siblings. And, Mme. Kilchrist was my great-great-grandmother. So that all fits. Was this Joseph O'Neil Breaux or just Joseph Breaux for whom you have the census information? Also, the 1910 Census has Joseph and "Marie". Do you think Marie is Emerite and the census taker just got confused? Or are we supposed to think that she is Marie Gilbeaux? In that case, the dates are confusing. It makes sense that Harris would disappear from the household from the 1910 to the 1930 census because he was the oldest and was, I think, married to my grandmother (Lelia Legere) by then. My mother knew her grandmother and knows that she was Emerite Bourgeois. She says her grandfather (or the person that was always referred to as her grandfather)died when she was two and she was always told that his name was Joseph or Joe B. Breaux. She didnt' know what the B. was supposed to stand for, and she never heard the name O'Neil. However, since Joseph's mother was of Irish descent, it certainly seems possible that Joseph had an Irish middle name. Notify Administrator about this message?
