Lauren and Suzanne,

In an earlier post, I wrote that Raymond and Esther were married in 1833. That is incorrect, it was in Cheticamp on 24 Nov 1829! Esther was the daughter of Jean Bourgeois and Marie Chiasson of the Magdalen Islands. This data comes directly from the researchers at Les Trois Pignons (3 Gables), the genealogy section of the Société St-Pierre, in Cheticamp, who include Edmond Burns, Jean Doris LeBlanc and Charlie Dan Roach, who are also close friends of mine.

To my knowledge, some of the parish registers are online at Andree MacMillan's web site, available via a link at the Cape Breton GenWeb, however, Raymond and Esther's marriage is not included. I got the info directly from Edmond Burns, who got it from the parish registers, which mention outright the parents' names of Raymond and Esther.

For the record, Raymond (and not Charles-Raymond! since he was always known as simply Raymond, having been named after his Poirier grandfather, Raymond Poirier, husband of Marie Bois)! so I'd drop the Charles, unless you have proof he used that name or was named that from his baptism certificate in Cheticamp. Raymond Bourgeois was the son of Jean Bourgeois (a native of France) and Angelique Poirier. Raymond's father, Jean was born in Rochefort, France. There is no marriage record of Jean's marriage to Angelique since the registers started after that event, but it is safe to say they married about 1795 in Cheticamp. His identity was probably discerned from oral tradition among the town's people and the Bourgeois family there, as well as genealogically by a process of elimination of all the possible Jean Bourgeois available to have been his father, being born circa 1771.

Jean Bourgeois, his father, and the son of Paul and Madeleine Cormier of Ile St-Jean (PEI), married on 27 Nov 1770 at St-Louis Ch., in Rochefort, France to Henriette Bonneau. I saw the names of her parents only a couple of years ago in a French genealogy publication dealing with Acadian marriages there, but was in a hurry and failed to jot down their names. I'll have to see if I still have a copy of this somewhere. Paul Bourgeois, was the son of Claude & Anne Blanchard, and the widower of Marie Brun, when he remarried circa 1749 at Ile St-Jean (PEI) with Madeleine Cormier, daughter of Pierre & Marie-Anne Cyr.

As for Damase of Sandy Point, NF (son of Raymond and Esther), I too heard he was a sea captain at Miquelon, but have not found any descendants of his there, so I don't know if he ever married.

As for Eugene and Josephine's baptisms, how did you get Alexandre's? For Eugene, you'd have to write to Cheticamp. I imagine Josephine's baptism (which occurred in the same church as Alex) would be at the same source as her brother's, would it not? That you can get via the Mormon Family History Center or via the Drouin Collection (both on microfilm).

If you want online confirmation of records, remember, not everything is on the Internet. Sometimes you have to consult microfilms, write letters, and do some library work. Hope the above helps.

Dennis
