EDWARD BOURASSA: HAMPDEN COUNTY, MASS.
Posted by: Walter T. Burrows III (ID *****0940) Date: January 27, 2006 at 20:08:10
  of 582

Seek info: Edward Bourassa, born Webster MA. Jan 20, 1849; died Westfield Feb. 23, 1931. Harness maker. Son of Joseph and Celestia ('Sally') (Potvin) Bourassa; husband of Norah Sheehan. Children: Nellie, Olive, Edward, Evelyn, Pierre R. (or Reginald P.), Paul and Marie. His older brother, Charles Bourassa/Burrows, was my great-grandfather.
Of particular interest: a) his Civil War service. According to his obituary, he enlisted at age 15, which would have been 1864. Nat'l Park Service Civil War Soldiers & Sailors project does not have a listing. Was he a combat soldier, or other type of service? Both Charles and their older half-brother Joseph served with Co. 'G', 18th CT Vol. Infantry. Was Edward in the same outfit, or a different one?
b) Any information at all about his mother. In his obituary and in separate newspaper articles about his younger sister Mary Dumas' 50th wedding anniversary, reference is made to Odille Gatineau (wife of Felix, whose statue stands in Southbridge opposite Notre Dame Church) as another sister. But Sally was widowed in April 1854 in Woodstock, CT, and Odille (Giard, dau. of Peter Giard) was born in August, 1860 in MA. Did Sally remarry? Was Odille a half-sister, step sister, or what?
