Hi, I am Potawatomi Indian with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation in Shawnee, OK. The Bourassa, Bertrand is my line.
I have: Francois Bourasseau I married to Marguerite Dugas; Francois Bourasseau II married to Marie LeBar (LeBer); Rena Bourassa I (Laronde) married to Agnes Gagne; Rene Bourassa II married to Anne Charlotte Veronique Chevalier; Daniel Bourassa I married to Marguerite Bertrand (One Quarter Indian); Daniel Bourassa II married to Theotis Pisange Arnwaske (Full Blood Indian); Joseph Napoleon Bourassa (Half Blood Indian) married Mah-nees (Full Blood Indian); Mary Margaret Bourassa McDowell (3/4) married to Peter (Pe-an-nish) Curley (4/4); Joseph Piece Curley (7/8) married to Catherine Bennett (Mo-go-ba-net)(4/4). Joseph and Catherine are my grandparents, and these names follows my grandfathers parents. Part of this information is from the 1863 Tribal Roll for Pottawatomie Indians. There are several Bourassa, w/different spellings, and several Bertrands listed.
There are Higbee's listed, too. Here is one family: Alva (45), Julia J. (38), Josephine L. (11), Mary A. (9), Joseph B. (7), Lewis B. (5), Robert A.(2), Lucy A. (2), George A. (1) and Catherine Lucier (16).
In some of my notes I show Marguerite Bertrand's brother as Joseph Bertrand married to Madelaine.
The Potawatomi, Chippewa and Ottawa were all one Tribe. Then broke off into three bands. I have lots of information on all of these lines. Hope this has helped.
Kathryn
