Re: Boughners are Palatines?
From what I was told, there were 5 Boughner brothers who came over from the Palitine or Prussia in the late 18th Century. They were known as von Boughner then, but dropped the von after they got here. They had some claim to nobility because they had a coat of arms. I've seen it. As a kid, my grandfather had a copy hanging on his wall. The colors were black and silver. Two of them joined the patriot forces during the Revolution. Three went to Canada as United Empire Loyalists. One of them, Daniel Boughner took up land in Western Pennsylvania after the war and took his family and settled near what is now Brownsville. He and his wife were killed in 1792 by Indians in the last Indian attack in W. PA. They were survived by a son--Daniel--who married the daughter of a pottery maker and took over the business. Some of the Boughner pots are now on display at the Fort Pitt Museum. The line goes on from there through 9 generations. I am the last. There are no more left.
