Elizabeth---The Original name was Boughner and our ancesters came from Ritzhausen Germany. They came to America The 1st half of the 1700's because of the inquisition (They were all Lutherans). Being illerate, they intered with the last name spelling as to how it sounded to the immigration officials. They entered as Boughner, Bougher, Bucher, Buckner, Boner etc. Five Boughners (that we know of) came with their families in about 25 years. They all entered
at Philadelphia, Pa and settled there. Peter Boughner (my ancester)the son of Johann Martin (the immigrant)Moved to Kentucky about 1800 then in 1825-1830 he moved with his family to Monroe Co. Ohio.
Many of the descendants changed their names back to Boughner but some didn't. There were actually brothers with different last names. Go to the Boughner genforum and see some of the research thats been done. These trees have been pretty well researched and I'll bet someone can fit you right in. Hope this helps.
