Hello cousins! I have just returned from a visit to the "ancestral homeland" of the Boudreaus in Nova Scotia, where I was born. I visited Grand Pré and Annapolis Royal in the Annapolis Valley, as well as Cheticamp in Cape Breton. It was powerful and inspiring to visit the sites of the expulsion of the Acadians, where a monument quietly marks where the Acadians were boarded onto the boats for destinations unknown. It was eery bing on the point of land jutting out into the bay in Annapolis Royal, known to our ancestors as Fort Royal. I attempted to locate a graveyard there, but evidently the "British" took care of that and there are no know graves of the Acadian settlers from whom we descend. I found records in the O'Dell Museum in Annapolis Royal that told of the census of 1671, whereby Michel Boudreau was the owner of 12 acres of land, 10 cattle, 3 guns and 5 boys! I found a newly printed map from the census of 1707 that shows the actual settlements and farms of the early settlers, such as Francois Boudreau. There are other things I discovered too numerous to mention. I travelled to Cheticamp where I was overcome with history. I found the monument erected in 1955 to the "14 Founding Fathers of Cheticamp" in the late 1700s (don't have the exact year with me at my computer). Found the graveyards, the original family land, and found a relative! Marie LeFort who works at Flora's Gift Shop. Her grandfather and my grandfather were brothers! It was an awesome trip and I would recommend everyone who has an interest to get there at least once in your life. If anyone would like further info you can e-mail me at zorrob@netcom.ca Michelle Boudreau daughter of Albert Duncan Boudreau
