Leslie, I should have known when I saw your grandparents wqere married at Newton (Upper Falls), MA as most of the Acadians in that town and in Somerville come from the Arichat region, even the family of esteemed Acadian genealogist, Stephen White who I believe grew up in that neck of the woods. You already have the correct link for the Arichat registers, but these only start in 1839, the earliest of these were destroyed in a rectory fire there in 1838, but thankfully again, Steve has spent a great deal of time and effort reconstructing the families of that town from their origins. Your Simon Boudreau and Marie Vigneau are the following, with his line back to our ancestor: Simon BOUDROT, s/o Charles-Abraham & Marie-Louise Fougere Marie-Marguerite VIGNEAU d/o Renaud & Madeleine Hebert m (acc. to Stephen White) Arichat, NS ca 1816 Simon died in D'Escousse (see George Rose's site) 2 Feb 1871. Charles-Abraham BOUDROT s/o Charles & Marguerite Dugas Marie-Louise FOUGERE d/o Michel & Appolonie Martel m (2nd) (acc to Stephen White) Arichat, NS ca 1787 We do not know the name of Charles-Abraham's first wife. Your ancestor Charles-Abraham is the brother of my ancestor, Jean-Baptiste Boudrot who married Marie-Anne Landry (on my maternal side of the family) so we are distant cousins, along with Stephen White. I descend from Jean's daughter, Henriette, and Stephen White from his daughter, Suzanne. Charles BOUDROT dit Madouesse s/o Michel & Anne Landry Marguerite DUGAS d/o Abraham & Marguerite Fougere m (acc. to Stephen White) Port-Toulouse, NS ca 1754 Port-Toulouse is today's St. Peter's, NS Michel BOUDROT dit Miquetau s/o Abraham & Cecile Melanson Anne LANDRY d/o Claude & Marguerite Theriot m (1st) Rg Port-Royal, Acadia 22 Jan 1714 Abrham BOUDROT s/o Michel & Michelle Aucoin Cecile MELANSON d/o Charles & Marie Dugas m Port-Royal, Acadia ca 1686 Michel BOUDROT (of unknown origin; ancestor) Michelle AUCOIN d/o prob Martin & Barbe Minguet of LaRochelle m Port-Royal, Acadia ca 1641 Stephen White, Histoire de la Famille de Michel Boudrot, pp 1-2, 10-11, 30-32, 133-134, 226-227 To my knowledge, many of the Arichat Boudreaus kept the original spelling of BOUDROT, and changed over to the conventional spelling BOUDREAU only after 1870, or when they emigrated out of Ile Madame. So, there you have it. Welcome to the family, cousin! Have a nice holiday weekend! Dennis Notify Administrator about this message?
