Dear Bill:

While I am not a professional genealogist, I do believe that you are correct to assume that Berte Graveline Beaudreau is a descendant of Urbain Baudereau dit Graveline. What is a bit surprising, at least to me, is the Graveline Beaudreau sequence. More common is the Beaudreau Graveline sequence. However, it must be kept in mind that surnames at the time were highly maleable, oftentimes at the whim of parish priests. Your ancestor may have declared herself to be Berte Beaudreau Graveline, or Beaudreau dit Graveline, and the priest may have recorded it as Graveline Beaudreau. In my lineage, the name has gone from Baudereau dit Graveline to Baudreau Graveline to Boudreau dit Graveline, to Baudreau-Graveline to Beaudreau to Beaudreau.

Hope this is of some use to you

Bernard Beaudreau
