Jacquie -

I just looked over Alphonse Boucher/Bouchey's obit. When he died in in 1937 it lists his surviving siblings. There were 5 remaining brothers and one sister: Emma (Boucher) Thyfault of Concordia KS, Maurice and Fred of Concordia KS, Edouard/Edward of Zurich KS, Meddie of Plainville, KS, and Ferdinand, address unknown.

It's a guess, but the Alfred who was age 8 in the 1860 census could actually have been Ferdinand. Alfred and Ferdinand sound enough alike that a mistake could easily have been made. If I'm correct, Ferdinand would have been born in Nicolet County, Quebec before the family moved to Illinois c. 1855. I could never figure out how Ferdinand fit in and I don't have any other mention of him in family records.

As you know, some of the sibs changed their last names to Bouchey and others kept Boucher. Some of them went back and forth between the spellings.

Janelle
