In searching out the Catholic Churches of St Albans, I found this page:
Apparently, not being too fond of the Irish in the early part of the 19th Century, our French forebears went up to Canada, or to a Protestant minister or to a Justice of the Peace for marriage, funerals etc. Most baptisms were done in Canada, so whether the baby was born in Vermont or Canada could be entirely open to interpretation, records-wise.
