There has been a great deal of misinformation written about Thomas Botts ( - 1742) in various family history books. There is no primary record that lists either his date of birth or the name of his parents. If you will read

you will note that the most common notion, that he was from Northampton Co., VA, can be proven to be wrong from court records. Also, there is no primary record that lists the maiden name of his wife. There have been several guesses, but I have found no supporting evidence for any of these theories in actual court records.

My ancestor, Aaron Botts ( - 1778), was married to a woman named Margaret. However, I have researched all of the Northern Neck references for the Wigginton family and there is no evidence that his wife was from this family. There are records that link Aaron Botts (1746-1790), son of Seth Botts, to the Wigginton family. My guess is that some family researcher got these two men confused.
