My father has done a lot of geneaology work on the Bottorff's in Canada and traced back the Bottorff's first entering North America in ~1700 - actually nearly every Bottorff in Canada is related to me. It is his understanding that Bottorff was originally Bad(d)orff and meant Bath City or City of Baths and I have learned that Bottorff/Baddorff is a Westphalian name.

I hope this helps.
