Can't be much help with Abel Bottoms, however I am descended, on my father's side, from a long line of Bottoms who came from N. Hertfordshire & S. Bedfordshire. Much of my information was supplied by Kathy Brooking who is a member of the Beds FHS and has a particular interest in the Bottoms family.
My earliest record is of a William Bottom(s) who was a shoemaker living in Upper Gravenhurst Beds between 1692 and 1738. My great grandmother Emma Bottoms 1839-1911 lived in Pirton her whole life. Emma had a sister Edith who married in Clophill in 1840. Her uncle William married in Clophill in 1811.
