I can't help you with Abel Bottoms, but I researching the Bottoms of Offley which although in Hertfordshire is very close to the Bed's border and only a few miles from Clophill.
I am looking at George Bottoms b 1809 offley, had a daughter Caroline Bottoms b 1847 offley.+ many more, they seem to be quite a large family in this area.
