How interesting! I am a descendant of Elisha Estes and Frances Bottom. Although I had not heard of any second marriage between Frances and anyone else, it makes perfect sense to me that that could have happened.

What would help is to know what the movements were of the descendants of this James family. I am descended Elisha Estes who m Frances Bottom > Elisha Estes b 1754 who m Mary Herd > Frances "Fanny" Estes b 1777 Franklin Co VA who m Joshua Warren Brock Sr; they moved to Madison/Rockcastle area of KY, then to Washington Community, Franklin Co, MO by 1811 and then to Neosho/Sarcoxie area, Newton Co, MO by 1833 or so > Joshua Warren Brock Jr who m Susannah Damron and moved to Ellis Co TX by 1839-44, then to Travis Co TX for the 1870 Census, then back to Ellis by 1876 or so > Elisha Estes Brock who m Eliza Smith and who lived in Ellis Co, TX > Sallie Eliza Brock who m Creach Ancil Carter and who lived in Ellis Co, TX > Winnie Dee Carter who m Jesse Mullican in Ellis Co, TX > mother > myself.

The reason that I went into all that is that there was also a James family or two in MO (Jesse rings a bell) and they moved from MO to the Peters/Mercer/Robertson Colony area in the mid-1800's. I have joked with some of their descendants that they were probably related to us, given the similar movement patterns. I know that a bunch of them ended up in Garland, TX, in Dallas Co, and I think that I have seen some around Collin Co also. Collin Co was the original headquarters of the troubled Peters' Colony settlement, Dallas at that time being nothing more than a house or two on a creek. Ellis Co is just SE of Dallas Co.

I also think I remember some Jameses marrying into the Maxey family of SW MO before the Maxeys came to TX. (We aren't related to the Maxeys as far as I know, but some of the MO Damrons and Brocks married into some families that did marry into the Maxeys.)

At any rate, I would be very interested to learn more about your line of the James family.
