Thank you so much for the information from the Bothwell book. I do not know the names of Samuel Watson Steuart Bothwell's parents or siblings. He was born March 16, 1833 in Indiana Co, PA, and when asked to furnish proof of his date of birth in an application for Union Army pension he said the family Bible had been burned many years before in a house fire in Illinois. I have not found anything to indicate he was a resident of Illinois after 1855. I do not know where he spent the early years of his life. I have not found him listed in the 1850 census with a family. I find conflict in the birthplaces of his parents as given for US censuses. In 1900 information indicates his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Pennsylvania. The 1920 census shows his father born in Scotland and mother born in Wales. I have often wondered if his father could have been a William as that was the name given his oldest son. Birthplaces and dates of his children are: William S, PA 1856; Charles Henry, Plymouth, Ohio 1859; John B, Kentucky 1861; Lucy, KY or OH 1863; James A, Minnesota 1866; Louis L, Minnesota 1869; Fredrick L, Kansas 1875. Samuel's wife, Rosella Melissa Adams, was born in Ohio in 1835. I do not know the county or town of birth, or the names of her parents other than Adams. She was living with a Laura Adams in 1850 in Butler County, PA. Rosella's father was born in CT and her mother in VT.
