I've tried to understand what branch of the Bothwell's you are looking into for Samuel Watson Steuart Bothwell. I'm a dec of Alexander II who ended up in Ill. I also have the Alexander Bothwell book. This particular Samuel doesn't show up but I will type in the family members & story how I understood it & let my know if I can help further. Alexander Bothwell I was poss born 1750 in the county of Lanarkshire, Scotland near the town of Bothwell in the parish of Bothwell on the River Clyde 7 mi So of Glasgow. He used the name Bothwell like many to denote birthplace. Acc to the book there was some problems politcal or otherwise that made him leave Scotland with his wife Catherine Hagan. The family moved to Londonderry County, Ireland unknown time except their first child Sarah(1) was born 4Sept1782 was born in Scotland or poss Londonderry. James(2) was born in Londonderry 20Aug1785 & later married Charlotte Potter. Mary(3)was also born in Ireland 10Feb1788 later married John Scott. William(4) born in Ireland 15Jan1790 no info on him. John(5) was born poss @ sea 21Dec1792 he was a soldier in the War of 1812 by entries in Penn Archives(6th series vol.IX pg 93,95,& 237)which shows by the payroll of Capt John Phillips Co of U.S. Volunteers under the command of Maj John Herkimer the John Bothwell, Private, was discharged at Oswego, N.Y. on Aug 26, 1813 & rec $20. No further word of him after the war. Alexander (6) my branch was born 12Apr1794 Winchester, Va. later married Hannah Claypoole & settled in Ill. Arthur(7) born 29Nov1798 no further info. & Jane(8) born 28June1800 poss New Geneva, Pa. Alexander I landed @ Newport News, Va moved to Winchester, Va moved to Greenburg, Pa moved to New Geneva, Pa where he died. Lots of info but let me know if you need more. Jr
