If you are interested in the gypsies in Britain, or at least in the Boswell gypsies in England, see the book entitled THE BOOK of BOSWELL, Autobiography of a Gypsy, by Silvester Gordon Boswell, London 1970. There are some really nice photos of the Boswells, as well as some great information on the how they lived. Silvester helped Smart & Crofton write their book called THE DIALECT of the ENGLISH GYPSIES. He was famous for his knowledge of Romany language, according to his son. The chapters deal with childhood, boyhood, soldiering, the horse trade, dealing in scrap, and the meaning of a being a gypsy.
